Fantasy football: 5 players who’ll be overdrafted in 2022
By Peter Panacy
Overdrafted fantasy football player No. 2: RB Ezekiel Elliott, Cowboys
2022 ADP: 3.02
The devaluing of NFL teams on running backs over recent seasons has made identifying the standouts at this position in fantasy football much more difficult. More often than not now, teams are going with running backs by committee instead of true bell-cows.
There are a few out there, though, such as the Tennessee Titans’ Derrick Henry or the Indianapolis Colts’ Johnathan Taylor.
Not long ago, the Dallas Cowboys’ Ezekiel Elliott would have been in this mix, too, yet the last two years have seen a noticeable downgrade in overall production, Elliott missing the 1,000-yard plateau in 2020 and then just barely cresting it last season.
He’ll be 27 years old by the time the 2022 regular season begins, but injuries have likely started playing a major role here. And while Dallas might have to revert back to being a run-first team in the wake of bidding farewell to wide receiver Amari Cooper and then losing fellow wideout Michael Gallup to a torn ACL late last year, it’s just as likely fellow tailback Tony Pollard gets an increased workload.
Elliott is still a strong candidate for an RB2 role in shallower leagues, but his third-round ADP is way too high.
