49ers trade-block player No. 3: Deommodore Lenoir

In an ideal world, a team trades off its worst or least-needed players and gets a massive haul from another team in return.

This is called fleecing. It happens, but it’s awfully rare.

However, it also doesn’t mean the Niners should avoid trying to move one of their cornerbacks, Deommodore Lenoir, who doesn’t appear to be needed anymore after falling way down the depth chart over the second half of his rookie 2021 campaign.

San Francisco’s fifth-round pick from last season started off strong in training camp and the preseason, yet poor in-season production ended up with him being relegated to bench duty by year’s end. Now, with presumed No. 1 corner Charvarius Ward in the mix, along with re-signing Jason Verrett and adding Samuel Womack via this year’s draft, Lenoir has an awfully long way to go before making the 53-man roster.

The remaining 31 teams across the league know this, too, and they’d all likely wait for the 49ers to simply waive Lenoir after just one season.

That said, a former fifth-round pick in year two of his rookie contract will be cheap, and the Niners can try their best to sell high to teams in need of help within their secondaries.
