3 questions Trey Lance must answer during 49ers training camp

Question No. 2: Trey Lance developing chemistry with top pass-catchers
One of the bonuses stemming from Jimmy Garoppolo’s offseason shoulder surgery is that it meant Trey Lance would receive all the first-team reps during OTAs and mandatory minicamp.
However, a sizable chunk of the 49ers’ best offensive weapons was either absent from or did not participate in offseason workouts thus far.
Two names come to mind here: wide receiver Deebo Samuel and tight end George Kittle.
Samuel, whose current contract dispute led him to stay away from OTAs and only physically be present for minicamp, not partaking in on-field workouts, prevented him from continuing his small rapport with Lance.
Kittle, meanwhile, was there for both sessions but didn’t practice alongside the quarterback in sessions open to the media.
Granted, both pass-catchers are bona fide weapons who arguably don’t need these seemingly meaningless practice reps before training camp. However, using Kittle as an example, he has just one career reception from Lance stemming from Week 17 a year ago. And while it went for 29 yards, it’s still fair to wonder just how far along his chemistry is with the second-year signal-caller.
Seeing Lance regularly target both Samuel and Kittle during training camp will be a good sign the offense is coming into form appropriately.
