No. 2: Trey Lance could struggle vs. Saints defense in Week 12

Remember including the Saints? Well, yes. We have to.

Granted, Trey Lance and Co. might not have to worry about a Tom Brady-like quarterbacking matchup, especially if New Orleans’ own, Jameis Winston, returns as prone to tossing interceptions as per usual, which benefits the 49ers’ own defense.

However, should the Saints garner headway this upcoming season, it’ll be on the laurels of their defense, one which CBS Sports ranked in a category of “most likely” to be the NFL’s best entering 2022:

"New Orleans has Dennis Allen adding more responsibility as head coach just like Tampa has with Bowles, but the Saints have a more reliable defensive backfield than their division rivals, thanks to their adding Tyrann Mathieu to rebound after losing Marcus Williams."

Don’t overlook the offseason pickup of former New York Jets defensive back Marcus Maye, too, as he could also create headaches for Lance.

New Orleans made life frustrating for Brady and the Buccaneers late last year, shutting them out in Week 15, and it’s perfectly reasonable to assume the Saints get hot, defensively, late in the year once again.
