No. 3 thing Trey Lance needs to show: Chemistry with George Kittle

Young quarterbacks love tight ends. Tight ends are big-bodied targets who often create mismatches in opposing defenses.

It’s a good thing the Niners have an All-Pro tight end in George Kittle, and Kittle figures to be quite the go-to option for Trey Lance in 2022 and hopefully beyond.

However, there’s not much of an in-game rapport between Lance and Kittle.

Amid Lance’s two starts last season, Kittle caught just one pass, albeit for 29 yards, but that pretty much sums up the stat line. Kittle wasn’t active in Week 5 when Lance made his starting debut against the Arizona Cardinals, so it remains to be seen just how much of a passer-receiver relationship these two are able to foster.

Similar to Charvarius Ward, Kittle didn’t partake in any of the offseason practices San Francisco made available to the media thus far, so it’s hard to garner just how much this relationship has developed.

Expect this to change in training camp, though, as Lance will need Kittle to be that playmaking go-to option in clutch situations again this season.
