No. 1 player 49ers would love to have back: CB Richard Sherman

Again, focusing on the prime of a player’s tenure and career, the Niners surely wouldn’t object to getting cornerback Richard Sherman back in the red and gold, particularly if he was playing at the level he displayed during the team’s 2019 Super Bowl run.

That Pro Bowl campaign cemented Sherman as a San Francisco fan favorite, which few could have ever predicted after he was a 49ers enemy No. 1 stemming from his days with the Seattle Seahawks.

Things change, though.

Of course, the Niners identified their top cornerback this offseason by signing former Kansas City Chiefs defensive back Charvarius Ward in free agency.

San Francisco’s cornerback room is stronger this year than last, of course, and Ward helps that.

But just imagine a starting boundary tandem consisting of Ward and an in-prime Sherman. That’d be potent, too.

Speaking of prime, Sherman is joining Amazon Prime as part of their Thursday Night Football broadcast, but he’d be open to returning to the NFL if the right opportunity presented itself.

Maybe it will… with the 49ers again.
