49ers dream scenario No. 2: Rams suffer a Super Bowl ‘hangover’

One of the painful memories that’ll haunt the Niners for months, perhaps years, is losing to the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship game despite holding a fourth-quarter lead in that game.

Of course, LA went on and won the Super Bowl, beating the Cincinnati Bengals, and will get to brag about that until a new champion is crowned.

Los Angeles surely stands the best chance of thwarting San Francisco’s prospects for reclaiming the NFC West crown this year, yet the 49ers would love nothing more than for head coach Sean McVay’s squad to experience the headache and hangover in the wake of winning it all the previous season.

Odds aren’t necessarily in the Niners’ favor for this, though.

Dating back to the 2000 season, 13 of the 21 Super Bowl winners ended up making the playoffs the following year, suggesting the Rams aren’t exactly poised to fall on hard times in 2022.

San Francisco, of course, can hope for the opposite to pan out and for things to go south for its NFC archrivals in a hurry.
