10 players who won’t be on 49ers 53-man roster come Week 1

No. 3: 49ers tight end Charlie Woerner
There’s always the possibility the Niners keep four tight ends on their 53-man roster. We’ve seen it before.
But if that was the case, San Francisco would be retaining George Kittle, Ross Dwelley, Charlie Woerner and the recently signed free agent, Tyler Kroft.
Four tight ends do make sense in some degree, but it would come at the expense of shortening other areas of the roster that might need the depth. We wouldn’t call it a waste of a roster spot, per se, but it might not be the best use here.
Kroft threatens both Dwelley and Woerner, and there’s absolutely every reason to believe the former could push out the latter, particularly if the 49ers are banking on Kroft’s seven touchdowns with the Cincinnati Bengals back in 2017.
Granted, that was a while ago, and Kroft hasn’t exactly established himself as a bona fide playmaker since then.
However, considering Woerner would be due only $45,258 in dead money if waived, it might be an easier choice than originally thought.
