10 players who won’t be on 49ers 53-man roster come Week 1

No. 1: 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo
You might be in the camp that sides with some opinions that San Francisco will ultimately keep veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo this season despite him missing all of offseason workouts because of his recent shoulder surgery.
Meaning all those reps will go to the signal-caller the 49ers identified to replace him, Trey Lance.
However, that same shoulder injury appears to be the primary reason why the Niners were unable to trade Garoppolo earlier this offseason. No team would actively want to ship out a high-profile draft pick in exchange for a 30-year-old oft-injured quarterback who might only be towards the lower half of starters in the league right now.

As such, San Francisco is awaiting the league’s quarterbacking landscape to change before trying once more.
Even then, Jimmy G’s tenure with the 49ers is far from safe.
Kyle Shanahan has already publicly admitted the Niners are still actively looking to trade Garoppolo. And while San Francisco won’t look to simply give him away for nothing, the landscape could and should change a lot between now and Week 1.
Simply put, the 49ers have made all indications of turning the page, and that’ll be the case by the time the regular season rolls around.
