Predicting 49ers defensive line depth chart after 2022 NFL Draft

49ers defensive line predictions: The stash players
Defensive ends: Alex Barrett
Defensive tackles: Kevin Givens, Kevin Atkins, Kalia Davis
Teams are going to be allowed 16-man practice squads this season, and the ability to stash veteran players who otherwise wouldn’t have counted under the pre-2020 CBA regulations are still capable of being added, too.
Good news there, although those designated to practice squad duty can be signed by another team as long as that team inks a player to its 53-man roster directly.
It’s anyone’s guess whether or not San Francisco would like to have someone like Charles Omenihu delegated to the practice squad in this capacity, as he’d surely welcome the opportunity to make more money elsewhere. Let’s assume that’d be the case, though.

Instead, the 49ers would look to stash some of their younger players, including two relatively low-profile rookies, sixth-round draft pick Kalia Davis from UCF and the undrafted Kevin Atkins out of Fresno State.
Davis, who suffered a torn ACL last year, is probably a safe bet for the non-football injury list, meaning he could be stashed in a redshirt-type situation.
That’d open up the door for Alex Barrett, a player the Niners seem to like in this capacity, to continue his regular presence on the practice squad.
Unless San Francisco shakes up its roster between now and Week 1, of course.
