49ers OTA overreaction No. 3: Offensive line is going to be bad

With Alex Mack absent, as well as right tackle Mike McGlinchey still rehabbing from the torn quad suffered last year, San Francisco’s starting offensive line on day one of actual on-field practices looked like this, according to the Sacramento Bee’s Chris Biderman:

Is that going to be a problem if those players — Colton McKivitz, Aaron Banks, Jake Brendel, Jaylon Moore and Justin Skule — are the starters come the regular season? Absolutely.

Of that bunch, though, only Banks has the realistic shot of starting.

Perennial All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams doesn’t need to prove anything. Right guard Daniel Brunskill was given the day off, and the hope is McGlinchey will be 100 percent by the time training camp rolls around.

The only question is at center with Mack.

If anything, giving this group the bulk of early reps should help determine who winds up solidifying the immediate regular-season reserves sooner than later.
