49ers trap game No. 2: Week 13 vs. Miami Dolphins, Sunday, Dec. 4 at 1:05 p.m. PT

For a long time, the Miami Dolphins have been an afterthought in the NFL, saddled in a division that was dominated for years by the New England Patriots and has now seemingly been handed over to the Buffalo Bills for the foreseeable future.

Never a threat, never truly bottomed out either, just seemingly there for the regular season and then going back home before returning to do the same thing again next year.

But there’s something very 49ers-esque about Miami this season. A very talented supporting cast has been assembled behind an unproven young quarterback, making the Dolphins somewhat of an enigma this season.

But quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has no excuses now given what the Dolphins have done. They signed left tackle Terron Armstead to bolster the trenches, Connor Williams will bolster the guard spot, former Niners running back Raheem Mostert is a nice get and traded for speedy wide receiver Tyreek Hill to form a potent tandem with another speedy receiver in Jaylen Waddle.

Miami could be set for a big boom this season if Tagovailoa takes advantage of the personnel around him. By Week 13, we’ll have a better idea of the kind of team that Miami is, but don’t be surprised if this is a game most people expect to win now that suddenly looks a whole lot tougher down the line.
