49ers NFC West rival No. 3: Seahawks will travel more than any other team in NFL

It’s the beginning of a new era in Seattle with quarterback Russell Wilson taking off for, well… “greener” pastures with the Denver Broncos during the offseason (although we fully acknowledge it’s more green in Washington state than in Colorado).

There’s nothing overly quirky or overly weird about the Seahawks’ 2022 schedule aside from the fact they’ll have to host Wilson and the Broncos to kick off the regular season in Week 1 before taking to the road for six of their next nine games, which is quite a lot.

Speaking of travel, though, that’s where the oddity comes into play.

As ESPN’s Adam Schefter pointed out, the Hawks travel more than any other team in the league this season, a total of 29,446 miles with an NFL-high 34 time zones crossed.

Granted, this isn’t uncommon for West Coast teams, especially when the NFC West is slated to face divisions like the NFC South this season.

However, amid all the changes head coach Pete Carroll and Co. have undergone, it wouldn’t be shocking at all to see that travel force Seattle off to a rough start this year.

Not like 49ers fans will complain, though.

After years of being dominated by Wilson and the Seahawks, Niners fans probably don’t mind some long-awaited adversity hitting their NFC West rivals hard at a time when they’re already down from what was truly a rough offseason.
