NFL Draft Pick No 2: Detroit Lions – Travon Walker, EDGE, Georgia

This year’s draft class is commonly held to be a weaker one as far as top-end talent is concerned, and as a result, there’s room for a prospect to have an exceptional NFL Scouting Combine and rise up the draft boards.

This season, that player just may be Travon Walker, who’s taken advantage of a poor draft process by Oregon EDGE Kayvon Thibodeaux to shoot up his stock.

Walker had six sacks for Georgia but played much better than those stats would suggest. He was regularly disruptive in a very impressive Bulldogs defensive line, and his combine performance showed he had an excellent blend of size (6-foot-5, 275 pounds) and speed to go with his tape.

The most impressive thing about Walker is he can play multiple positions on the defensive line and even add some weight to play on the interior. He can be utilized in a lot of ways, and a smart defensive team can have a lot of fun moving him around to exploit mismatches.

Walker arguably has more upside than Aidan Hutchinson as well, although Hutchinson has the higher floor. Jacksonville thought highly enough of Walker to schedule private workouts with him, and he very well could be a top five pick in the NFL Draft.
