Round 4, Pick No. 134 Overall: 49ers select G/C Luke Fortner, Kentucky

The departure of Laken Tomlinson created a huge hole on the left side of the offensive line.

Standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing in at 300 pounds, the addition of Kentucky’s Luke Fortner will more than suffice. In fact, putting him next to All-Pro tackle Trent Williams should make that side of the line immovable.

In addition to dominant gameplay, Fortner brings versatility as well. Prior to the collegiate level, he spent three years at offensive tackle.

He switched to center for the Wildcats after two years at the guard position and grabbed first-team ALL-SEC honors. The only thing more impressive than his ability to play every position is his quickness to adaptability.

Fortner appears to be an eventual starter at the pro level, but at the very least he brings formidable depth at every position.

As of now, it looks as though the 49ers are set to roll with second-year man Aaron Banks. If Banks is a viable starter, Fortner can be the eventual mainstay after the departure of center Alex Mack. If Banks doesn’t make the cut, then Fortner can pick up the slack on the left side.
