No. 6 prospect 49ers don’t want to see in NFC West: CB Roger McCreary

The 49ers may not be done adding cornerbacks via the NFL Draft, and Auburn’s Roger McCreary could actually end up being the Niners’ first target towards the end of Round 2, assuming he falls that far.

However, the Seahawks, Cardinals and Rams could all use some cornerback reinforcements, particularly with the Hawks losing nickel corner D.J. Reed in free agency, LA bidding farewell to defensive back Darious Williams and Arizona still trying to find an adequate replacement for its former veteran, Patrick Peterson, dating back to last year.

McCreary, 6-foot-0 and 190 pounds, is certainly in the discussion for being one of the first couple of cornerbacks selected this year, and his ability to double as both a boundary corner and nickel back could make him an attractive option, particularly for both the Hawks and Rams.

The former Auburn Tiger had five interceptions and 20 pass breakups over his last two seasons, and that kind of production would make it tough for the Niners to target him in coverage, should those skills end up translating over to the pro level.
