49ers news: 3 trade rumors that are too crazy to be true

Rumor No. 3: 49ers will seek to trade Deebo Samuel
Sure, there’s a scenario where San Francisco trades Deebo Samuel. But it won’t be anytime soon, if at all.
Should it, the earliest possible time would be at the start of the league new year in 2023 and only if the 49ers reached an impasse with their All-Pro receiver in terms of a contract extension, not unlike what happened with Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill, likely involving a franchise tag-and-trade scenario.
But that’s for another time. Not now. Not when the Niners’ Super Bowl window is currently open and the need to surround Trey Lance with weaponry is actively apparent.
Still, that hasn’t stopped the NFL rumors from churning out, including one that states the New York Jets are “keeping an eye” on the situation between Samuel and San Francisco.

Here’s why any trade notions for Samuel, at least right now, are bogus:
- Samuel is the 49ers’ No. 1 offensive option, currently
- He’s entering the final year of his affordable rookie contract, costing the Niners only $4.9 million
- See reason No. 1
Teams like the Jets can monitor the situation all they want. Heck, San Francisco can “keep an eye” on whether or not the Kansas City Chiefs want to move on from quarterback Patrick Mahomes (they don’t) or if the Pittsburgh Steelers elect to put three-time All-Pro EDGE T.J. Watt on the trade block (they won’t).
No, Samuel isn’t going to be moved anytime soon, if at all.
