49ers quarterback option No. 1: Colin Kaepernick

Let the controversy begin, and yes, I’m completely playing devil’s advocate. But either way, it deserves a look.

With the quarterback position in San Francisco currently in question, why couldn’t this be a possibility, too? Former 49ers starting quarterback Colin Kaepernick has kept himself in football shape, and he’s been working out with current NFL players as of late.

It’s been said that he would flourish in the Kyle Shanahan system. You could even make the argument Kap’s skill set is very similar to Trey Lance. They are both big, physical specimens with the ability to run and can both throw the deep ball.

But with Kaepernick comes an added bonus. He’s won the big games before, and he’s been to the big show.

When needed, he’s also put the roster on his back and scaled the mountain to greatness.

It’s not far-fetched.

In fact, it could be in the works, currently and you’d never know due to the tight-lipped policy John Lynch prides himself on.

One thing is for sure: It would definitely go against the grain.

I’m no football GM, but there are two things that life has taught me.

First, football is a business, and emotions need not apply to anything when it comes to winning and staying relevant in your division.

And second, always expect the unexpected. And a Kaepernick return would certainly be unexpected.
