No. 1: 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk

The one player who truly needs to assert himself and improve the most is wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.

After the suspiciously slow start to begin the season, Aiyuk started to pick up his play after the first quarter into the year. Finishing the season with 56 catches, 826 yards and five touchdowns would be seen as a productive year, but imagine the type of numbers he could’ve finished with if he had been more impactful during that first quarter of the season.

Many speculated about the reasoning for Aiyuk’s rough start, and the general consensus was determined as him ending up in Kyle Shanahan’s doghouse.

Regardless of the reasoning behind Aiyuks’ lack of contributions, the 49ers will need him firing on all cylinders right out the gate in 2022. With the notable change at quarterback with Trey Lance poised to start, needing all his weapons to support him, every healthy player on the roster needs to be on the same page and locked in with the incoming field general.

Including Aiyuk.
