5 dream targets for 49ers in 2022 NFL Draft
By Peter Panacy
49ers dream target No. 4: DB Jalen Pitre, Baylor
This isn’t the first time we’ve touted Baylor defensive back Jalen Pitre, and it probably won’t be the last time either.
The Niners are poised to lose two key components to their secondary this offseason, strong safety Jaquiski Tartt and nickel cornerback K’Waun Williams, to free agency. And even if San Francisco re-signed either or both, it could still stand to reinforce the back end of the defense.
If anything, at least one of the 49ers’ first two draft picks should be used here.
Pitre, 6-foot-0 and 197 pounds, made a name for himself last season with 56 tackles, two interceptions and seven passes broken up, primarily playing the role of a nickel back. Yet he has the versatility to double as a safety, too, if needed.

The tougher part will be seeing where Pitre lands on draft day. Some big boards project him as a fringe first-round prospect, while others say he’s no better than a Round 3 option.
Either way, and for whatever the role might be, a team like the 49ers could use Pitre to infuse some youth and talent into a secondary that has a lot of glaring holes entering 2022.
