49ers salary cap player No. 4: LT Trent Williams

2022 scheduled salary: $13.987 million

The 49ers not only have the highest-paid tight end in the business right now, but they also have the highest-paid offensive tackle, 2021 first-team All-Pro Trent Williams, whose lucrative six-year, $138.06 million contract signed last offseason edged out Green Bay Packers left tackle David Bakhtiari’s deal by $10,000 in terms of annual average value.

In Williams’ case, he’s averaging $23.01 million per year.

The hefty part of his six-year contract won’t hit this season, though, as Williams is scheduled to make only $13.987 million in 2022 before the figure jumps up to a whopping $26.27 million in 2023.

That’ll correspond, however, with the highly anticipated increase of the NFL salary cap, though, and the Niners will still be paying Trey Lance his rookie-contract money.

Williams’ earnings will increase steadily through the deal’s expiration year of 2026 when his amount due will be $33.06 million.

It’s hard to see Williams making it that far, financially, but that’s a worry San Francisco will put aside for now.
