49ers wish they could afford these 4 big-name free agents in 2022

49ers ‘would love’ player No. 1: Wide receiver Davante Adams
Admit it, Green Bay Packers two-time first-team All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams would look great in a 49ers uniform.
Sure, the Niners already have two excellent wideouts in Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk. But adding someone of Adams’ ilk would provide the best star power for 2021 rookie quarterback Trey Lance, supporting him with a cast that would immediately become the envy of the rest of the league.
And with Green Bay over $50 million above the salary cap, there’s no way Adams stays with the Packers, right?
Who knows on that part of the future? Yet Adams, widely viewed as the best player potentially available in this offseason’s NFL free agency class, is going to command a salary that could turn him into the highest-paid wide receiver in league history, perhaps earning the 29-year-old superstar a new deal worth up to $28 million annually.
There will be plenty of receiver-needy teams out there willing to pay much more than what San Francisco can afford.
So, unless Adams wants to take a massive pay decrease to return home to Northern California (not even remotely likely), he won’t be donning the red and gold in 2022.
