5 under-the-radar free agents 49ers should try adding in 2022

49ers free-agent target No. 4: Offensive guard Connor Williams, Cowboys
Another pending free agent the Niners may lose this offseason is left guard Laken Tomlinson. Even if Tomlinson stays, San Francisco still has the desire to upgrade at right tackle over Daniel Brunskill, and it’s not necessarily looking good that 2021 rookie lineman Aaron Banks will fill that need.
While Dallas Cowboys left guard Connor Williams wasn’t exactly his team’s best lineman over the course of last season, he was nevertheless respectable enough to warrant some consideration.
Pro Football Focus awarded him a solid 76.1 overall grade on the year with just one sack and 13 pressures allowed. And while Williams was hit with 15 penalties on the year, he’d surely be less a liability than some of the 49ers’ other choices to either replace Tomlinson or upgrade over Brunskill.
Guards, like nickel cornerbacks, also tend to be a lot cheaper on the market than tackles, meaning the Niners probably wouldn’t have to spend too much money to bring someone like the 24-year-old Williams aboard.
