49ers NFC West free-agent target No. 3: Cornerback Darious Williams, Rams

It would be great if San Francisco could afford a big-ticket free-agent pass-rusher like the Cardinals’ Chandler Jones or the Los Angeles Rams‘ Von Miller, but both aren’t going to come cheap, and the 49ers’ own financial limitations probably prevent them from even sniffing either player this offseason.

There’s another Rams player, however, the Niners might be interested in targeting, particularly if they’re unable to land D.J. Reed.

Los Angeles’ nickel corner, Darious Williams.

Williams, a former undrafted free agent, has made a quality name for himself even though he’s completely overshadowed by fellow LA corner Jalen Ramsey. During the course of the 2021 regular season, Williams managed a career-high 71 tackles and nine passes broken up, all the while posting a modestly respectful 95.8 passer rating allowed.

This should probably be the contingent play for San Francisco if K’Waun Williams departs in NFL free agency and the team isn’t able to sign Reed.

If anything, the 49ers wouldn’t be losing out on a quality starter within their secondary.
