No. 2: 49ers Wide Receiver Mohamed Sanu
Kyle Shanahan and veteran wide receiver Mohamed Sanu have a history, and Sanu knows the system very well.
However, with the recent emergence of second-year wideout Jauan Jennings, that may no longer matter.
The 49ers have struggled to find a solid No. 3 receiver behind Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk, and until recently, it’s been a committee of receivers pulling together to give the team stability. Sanu came to the team at the right time and brought plenty of talent, but since his arrival, more talent has emerged.

At 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, Sanu is a big target and the prototypical wideout, but at 32 years of age, chances are he’ll be pushed out by one of the younger guys.
Jennings has the same measurables and is locked up on a bargain contract until the end of the 2023 season. When his contract is up, he shouldn’t command too much as a third option. This is a stacked position with a lot of talent brewing.
If the 49ers are keen on taking a fifth wideout, then Sanu is probably safe. As of right now, the top three positions look to be set with Trent Sherfield securing spot No. 4.
