While there’s always a chance, it’s looking to be a longshot for the 49ers to somehow pull off a victory when Super Bowl LVI rolls around this February.

If we were being honest with ourselves last offseason, we should have taken into account the San Francisco 49ers might have been a playoff-contending team but certainly not one that could pummel its way into a Super Bowl as it did back in 2019.

Now at the back end of the regular season, it’s looking as if those early 2021 predictions are coming true.

At 9-7, and with one regular-season game left on the schedule, the Niners still control their own fate. A win over the 12-4 Los Angeles Rams would ensure San Francisco clinches a Wild Card berth, no higher than the No. 6 seed in the NFC playoff picture, while a 49ers loss and a New Orleans Saints win over the Atlanta Falcons would mean the Niners aren’t in the postseason at all.

Even if San Francisco does manage to get in, its odds for winning Super Bowl LVI are still notably low.

49ers betting odds for winning Super Bowl 56

The oddsmakers over at WynnBET aren’t necessarily looking at the 49ers as complete longshots heading into Week 18, as there are still plenty of other elimination scenarios to be played out.

But the odds aren’t exactly great either.

Currently, the Niners have the 12th best odds to come away with the Lombardi Trophy this February with a betting line of +4000.

The entire odds orders for the Super Bowl LVI victor from WynnBET are as follows:

  1. Green Bay Packers (+350)
  2. Kansas City Chiefs (+450)
  3. Buffalo Bills (+750)
  4. Los Angeles Rams (+800)
  5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+850)
  6. Dallas Cowboys (+1200)
  7. Tennessee Titans (+1200)
  8. Cincinnati Bengals (+1800)
  9. New England Patriots (+1800)
  10. Arizona Cardinals (+2000)
  11. Indianapolis Colts (+2200)
  12. San Francisco 49ers (+4000)
  13. Los Angeles Chargers (+5000)
  14. Philadelphia Eagles (+6000)
  15. New Orleans Saints (+10000)
  16. Las Vegas Raiders (+15000
  17. Baltimore Ravens (+100000)
  18. Pittsburgh Steelers (+100000)

It would be a shame, however, if the lower-rated Eagles and Saints somehow manage to get into the playoff dance over San Francisco.

49ers face a tough road ahead if they make NFL playoffs anyway

Being a Wild Card team all but ensures a complete road schedule throughout the duration of the conference playoff games, and the 49ers’ Round 1 opponent could again be the Rams, Buccaneers or potentially even the Cowboys.

At some point, in all likelihood, the Niners would have to face off against Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks like Aaron Rodgers of the Packers or Tom Brady of the Buccaneers to secure a ticket to the Super Bowl itself, not an easy proposition regardless of whichever quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo or Trey Lance, San Francisco is fielding at that point in time.

Going against either one of those two future Hall of Famers is certainly going to test the 49ers’ questionable secondary.

There have been storybook seasons before, though, and there’s always the chance the Niners emerge as this season’s Cinderella postseason team.

If so, those long odds might be laughed at by the time Super Bowl LVI comes to a close on Feb. 13.
