49ers NFC West Player to Steal No. 2: CB Jalen Ramsey, Rams

Not kidding about the part where adding two cornerbacks would be a Niners priority.

And if you were wondering why we initially passed up Rams perennial Pro Bowl cornerback Jalen Ramsey for Byron Murphy, don’t worry. Ramsey is next.

It would be one thing for a dream-like San Francisco defense to upgrade with one Pro Bowl-caliber cornerback. Adding two, however, would legitimately turn the 49ers secondary into a massive strength, one which would rival the defensive line and potentially even surpass it.

Ramsey, a 2021 Pro Bowler, is allowing opposing quarterbacks to post a mere 67.8 passer rating when targeting him, the notable result after he notched three interceptions and 14 pass breakups already this season.

More importantly, Ramsey carries the reputation of being a shutdown corner, one of which the Niners haven’t had since veteran cornerback Richard Sherman was on the roster. Sometimes, a player’s name carries weight alone.

That would be the case here, as it’s hard to argue for a better cornerback within the NFC West over Ramsey.
