No. 1: Trey Lance must improve his pocket presence

While Trey Lance is an incredible rusher of the football, it is no secret all great quarterbacks need to have the ability to win from the pocket as well.

When you’re down two touchdowns in the playoffs with only a quarter of play left, rushing won’t do you any favors, and this is why Lance needs to improve his ability to win from the pocket, even if plays break down and he is forced to go off-script, which is often the case in the NFL.

Lance needs to assure he understands the importance of being able to execute plays efficiently in the passing game and avoid trying to take the easy way out by scrambling for yardage whenever things get a little uncomfortable.

This is not to say Lance doesn’t already know this, but it is something most fans feel he can improve on as he takes the next steps in his journey to being the Niners’ full-time signal-caller.

Lance’s college tape proves that he does in fact often prefer to lean on his legs in tight situations, but at the NFL level, like all great quarterbacks, he needs to be able to execute in the air.

All in all, the Lance journey should be an interesting one.

Let’s just hope he takes the necessary steps to assure he’s successful as a franchise quarterback.
