49ers have to keep an eye on Washington Football Team

Football Team remaining schedule: @ Eagles, @ Cowboys, vs. Eagles, @ Giants

The 49ers have to be thrilled by the Washington Football Team falling in Week 14 to the Dallas Cowboys, and Dallas is going to likely claim the NFC East anyway this season.

That Washington loss, paired with the Niners’ own Week 14 win, swapped the two teams in the Nos. 6 and 7 playoff berths, and San Francisco can afford to be a fan over the aforementioned Eagles in both of the Football Team’s remaining four games, all against NFC East opponents.

Thanks to the 49ers beating Philly way back in Week 2, there’s that effective two-game cushion.

Maybe Washington is able to split those games against Philadelphia, but the Niners wouldn’t mind seeing the Cowboys pull off a home win here, and it would be even better if the hapless New York Giants somehow found a way to do something similar to close out the regular season, ensuring San Francisco doesn’t fall any lower than the No. 6 seed in the playoff seeding.

This is certainly favorable for the 49ers in that degree, although they’ll also be paying close attention to how seed Nos. 2 through 4 shape up to determine who winds up being a Wild Card opponent in Round 1 of the playoffs.
