No. 1: 49ers still win when Jimmy Garoppolo doesn’t toss an interception

The 49ers narrowly pulled off the Week 14 victory, and that only came from Jimmy Garoppolo being perfect in overtime and thanks to some key defensive moments that held Cincinnati to an overtime field goal instead of what could have been a game-winning touchdown.

With the Niners’ margin for error so thin, Garoppolo had to do one thing well during the game: not make a massive mistake by turning the ball over.

There were close moments. Garoppolo fumbled once but was able to recover, and he also hit a Bengals defender in the hands, only to see him drop a would-be interception in the fourth quarter that could have been returned for a pick-six touchdown.

Still, San Francisco will happily take the no-turnover, no-interception game from Jimmy G. In some cases, the stat line is all that matters.

Speaking of those stats, the 49ers are 6-0 this season when Garoppolo doesn’t toss an interception, but their 2021 record drops to 1-5 when he throws one.

For all those fans still believing the “Jimmy G wins” storyline, they have to account for whether or not he throws an interception.

Because that’s the QB wins stat now.
