No. 4: 49ers fans can be thankful at Seahawks demise
Even though it was seven years ago, it still seems like yesterday when the Seattle Seahawks celebrated Thanksgiving on the field at Levi’s Stadium after a one-sided Thursday Night Football victory over the Niners.
Fans won’t soon forget quarterback Russell Wilson and cornerback Richard Sherman eating turkey on top of the team’s logo midfield. And while Sherman might have been forgiven, particularly after later joining San Francisco’s ranks, the memory still burns today.
Things have changed, though.
Seattle is crumbling, a 3-7 franchise at the very bottom of the NFC West and only ahead of the winless Detroit Lions in the NFC standings. True, the Seahawks beat the 49ers earlier this season. But that doesn’t cover up the fact an injured Wilson is still at the helm of an aging franchise showing signs of completely coming apart.
You hate to see it. You truly do.
Wilson could easily want out this offseason, which were the rumors last offseason. Head coach Pete Carroll’s gum-chewing magic doesn’t appear to be working anymore, and Seattle finds itself losers of five of its last six games with a Niners grudge match on the horizon in Week 13.
While San Francisco fans can be thankful for the Seahawks’ demise, nothing would be sweeter than putting the proverbial dagger in Seattle’s already dim playoff hopes with a win in two weeks.
