49ers Young Player No. 3: Wide Receiver Jauan Jennings

You might have already forgotten wide receiver Jauan Jennings is still on the 49ers roster. Aside from his first-ever NFL touchdown way back in Week 2, the 6-foot-3 second-year pro has mostly been a non-factor and buried deep on the wide receiver depth chart, notching just four targets and one reception in the games since.

To date, Jennings has appeared on only 8.7 percent of the Niners’ offensive snaps this year. But with the team being forced to sit injured veteran slot receiver Mohamed Sanu, the No. 3 receiving option at the position to date, there’s a chance for Jennings to make his impact felt.

San Francisco’s offense could afford to develop some more toughness, particularly in an NFC West showdown against division rivals. Jennings has that, as his reputation for breaking tackles at the collegiate level preceded him.

Matching up against Jennings, should the 49ers go with him as a slot option, would be Rams nickel cornerback David Long Jr., who has only missed one tackle this season but could miss a few more if he has to put his 5-foot-11, 196-pound frame up against the notably bigger Jennings.
