No. 2: In the spirit of the 49ers giving guys a chance, Donald De La Haye should at least be on the list

At this point with the kicking situation, what do the 49ers have to lose?

Donald De La Haye used to be a kicker at the University of Central Florida. But he became so popular on YouTube, he started making money off his videos. He ended up losing his scholarship to UCF because of it, however, he’s made quite the name for himself since.

He developed the nickname “YouTube” for obvious reasons. His fame brought him to the Toronto Argonauts in 2019. Though he didn’t stick with the team past preseason, the Argos clearly saw enough talent in him to give him a shot.

De La Haye doesn’t have much game experience because of the path he chose. However, he has an incredible leg with lots of power and accuracy. His kicking mechanics are smooth and polished. On his YouTube account, he has videos hitting 80-yard field goals.

The Niners have shown they’re willing to give someone a chance. They selected quarterback Trey Lance third overall and he had far less experience than most of the first-round quarterbacks taken.

But if there’s a raw talent with huge upside, it’s worth looking into.

San Francisco would have to decide if it’s willing to take on a social media star and all the buzz he’d bring to the organization, whether it’s good or bad.
