No. 3: 49ers EDGE Nick Bosa

The 49ers had plenty of defensive issues against Bears rookie quarterback Justin Fields, including allowing him to run free for 103 yards, including a 22-yard scamper for a touchdown where it appeared the Niners defense had Fields bottled up for what would have been another sack.

While those are issues San Francisco will have to worry about moving forward, it’s at least refreshing to know EDGE Nick Bosa can be a difference-maker at any particular moment, whether it’s a key tackle for a loss against a running back trying to get outside or bringing down an opposing quarterback at a crucial moment.

Bosa was a key figure in whatever success the 49ers defense had in Week 8, logging only three tackles but translating two of those into sacks, half of the Niners’ sack total on Fields from the game.

Additionally, Bosa recorded another tackle for a loss while adding three quarterback hits. For a game where San Francisco was missing Bosa’s pass-rushing linemate, Dee Ford, who was out with a concussion, it was refreshing to see Bosa nevertheless make the kind of impact needed to ensure Chicago wouldn’t capitalize on the net success it was having early in the game.
