3. 49ers Target RB Matt Breida from Buffalo

Running back Matt Breida has to be on San Francisco’s radar. The former 49er is on a one-year, $1.055 million contract with the Buffalo Bills, but he has been inactive behind Devin Singletary and Zack Moss for the last five weeks this season.

He’s just too valuable to sit so deep in the Bills depth chart. In his three seasons in San Francisco, he ran for 1,902 yards and six touchdowns. After spending 2020 in Miami before heading to Buffalo, he now has 2,160 yards in his career. Breida is one of the fastest RBs the league, and knows how to use his speed to wear down opposing defenses.

That quickness and experience would be a game changer for the 49ers. After losing Raheem Mostert for the season, the rookies Elijah Mitchell and Trey Sermon have been trading off rushing duties. The young duo hasn’t done terribly for San Francisco, but the addition of a veteran to guide them and take some of the pressure off would be monumental for the Niners.

Breida will likely have multiple suitors looking to bring him on before the trade deadline, but the 49ers have the advantage of familiarity. If they offer up a 2023 seventh-round pick to the Bills, Breida might be the easiest addition to the squad this season.
