49ers Challenge No. 2: Wide Receiver Davante Adams

The Lions don’t have a true No. 1 impact wide receiver. The Eagles, meanwhile, are only starting to develop one in the rookie, DeVonta Smith.

Packers wide receiver Davante Adams, meanwhile, proves to be the toughest challenge at the position the Niners have yet faced this season. Interestingly enough, he’ll match up against what’s generally perceived as San Francisco’s biggest weakness in 2021, the cornerback group.

It’s likely the Packers try matching Adams, the 2020 receiving-touchdown leader, against 49ers rookie cornerback Deommodore Lenoir, who has handled himself well this season by allowing only five receptions on 13 targets. Yet Adams is an entirely different kind of receiver, who not only has the speed to get by Lenoir but also possesses the build and physicality to win challenges at the line of scrimmage.

The Niners would be wise to shade some safety help over to Adams’ side during the game, giving Lenoir a bit more support over the top in an attempt to not let the four-time Pro Bowl receiver get too deep for chunk gains.

That said, one should expect Adams to do plenty of damage on Sunday night even if San Francisco does everything in its power to limit him.
