49ers: 3 players Niners already wish they didn’t get rid of

49ers Missed Player No. 1: Running Back Wayne Gallman
Early this season, it appeared as if San Francisco would worry most about cornerback attrition. For almost the entirety of the preseason, the last position group anyone worried about was running back, knowing all too well the 49ers would have to be giving up on someone who’d likely be capable of starting elsewhere.
Turns out, that player was the veteran, Wayne Gallman, who left for the Atlanta Falcons after being let go in favor of Raheem Mostert, Elijah Mitchell, JaMycal Hasty and Trey Sermon.
Mostert is out for the year now. Mitchell is banged up with a shoulder injury, and Hasty suffered an ankle injury in Week 2. Sermon, meanwhile, suffered a concussion on his first regular-season rush attempt.

Anyone left fully healthy?
The hope will be for Mitchell and Hasty to return to action soon, while Sermon’s head injury was awfully scary but hopefully results in a quick return, too. Also, veteran running back Jeff Wilson Jr. is scheduled to return later this season after tearing his meniscus last spring.
All that said, though, it’s pretty easy to look back at Gallman no longer being in the picture and hoping the Niners were somehow able to retain him.
They sure could use him now.
