49ers Stat No. 2: Deommodore Lenoir is solving cornerback issues

The Niners should and will continue worrying about their cornerback situation, which took a turn for the worse when they lost No. 1 cornerback Jason Verrett to a season-ending ACL tear last week.

The recently onboarded veteran, Josh Norman, was flagged twice for pass interference, yet there aren’t a lot of other depth options worth exploring. Especially with rookie cornerback Ambry Thomas’ struggles early in 2021, which resulted in him being inactive for Week 1.

Fortunately for San Francisco, fellow rookie corner Deommodore Lenoir continues to make big plays.

True, Lenoir tripped on what turned into a 91-yard catch-and-run reception by Eagles wide receiver Quez Watkins. But unlike some former 49ers cornerbacks, Lenoir didn’t let it get into his head and continued to play at an awfully high level.

One which helped produce three pass breakups on the day.

Lenoir’s strong start to 2021 has alleviated many of the concerns the Niners have at the position, and he’ll be tasked with backing up his play in a week against quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers.
