Sit: 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk

Is he injured? Is he in Kyle Shanahan’s doghouse? Did Trent Sherfield play his way over him in the depth chart? Is it a combination of the three and we somehow never knew it?

If there was one mystery that needed clearing up from a fantasy perspective (well, every perspective), it’s where does Brandon Aiyuk sit when it comes to the 49ers offense.

A player who showed some very Deebo Samuel-like potential in his rookie year, Aiyuk was barely sighted at all in the first game as any fantasy owner that started him was no doubt stunned.

The 49ers didn’t run a lot of plays with three receivers on the field. In fact, only the Houston Texans and Atlanta Falcons actually ran less plays with three receivers.

It’s too soon to run for Sherfield to put in the fantasy team unless you’re in a very deep league, but it’s definitely something to keep an eye on for Week 2.

If the 49ers end up playing with three receivers more often against the Eagles, we may see this Aiyuk situation as just a forgotten story by this time next week.
