No. 1: 49ers Running Back JaMycal Hasty

Yes, another one of those players who’d be hard to let go via trade, namely because he was so impressive during the preseason.

But, remember, it’s hard to trade bad players. It’s easier to trade players whose stock value is either high or on the rise.

Such is the case for second-year running back JaMycal Hasty, who managed to do enough to push veteran rusher Wayne Gallman off San Francisco’s 53-man roster bid. Hasty’s scatback capabilities make for an intriguing fit for many a team, including his pass-catching skills, yet there’s still a chance Hasty won’t see much of the field at all for the 49ers this season. Even with head coach Kyle Shanahan’s tendency of using a regular rotation.

Raheem Mostert, Trey Sermon and Elijah Mitchell are also in the mix to take carries. And while Hasty might be above Mitchell on the depth chart, the Niners likely have more invested in Mitchell’s long-term future than that of Hasty.

And if you’re worried about long-term ramifications, remember veteran runner Jeff Wilson Jr. is poised to return from his offseason knee injury later this season.

Hasty’s value is high enough, and he’s also young and developing, which could make him a cheap alternative for a team looking to dish out a late-round draft pick.

Again, not easy. But something at least worth exploring.
