49ers roster chances for these 4 players aren’t looking good

No. 2: 49ers Cornerback B.W. Webb
Earlier this offseason, it made sense why the Niners onboarded veteran cornerback B.W. Webb to a secondary that had plenty of question marks whether or not its depth would be adequate. While Webb hasn’t exactly been a standout at any point in his career, at least his experience could provide some much-needed reinforcement if one of San Francisco’s top three corners — Jason Verrett, K’Waun Williams or Emmanuel Moseley — was absent for any extensive length of time.
The move also guarded against a slowish maturation of the 49ers’ two rookie cornerbacks, Ambry Thomas and Deommodore Lenoir, who flashed signs of promise during organized team activities and training camp but were generally considered too raw and not ready for full-time NFL duties.
Well, both Lenoir and Thomas’ efforts in preseason Week 1 against the Chiefs changed that narrative.
Thomas was solid enough with five tackles, yet Lenoir ended up getting the start — likely a move to get him more experience and help his development — and finished the game with the Niners’ lone interception.
Sure, it was just one exhibition bout and nothing more. Yet one could argue San Francisco isn’t quite as thin at cornerback as originally anticipated. Especially if Thomas and Lenoir’s trajectory continues to point upward.
This could essentially mean Webb winds up being nothing more than a camp/preseason body, perhaps leading to him being let go by the time Week 1 rolls around.
