49ers training camp: Jalen Hurd is back on the field
While Dee Ford’s injury concerns are real, San Francisco has to be feeling pretty good about finally getting its third-round NFL Draft pick from 2019, wide receiver Jalen Hurd, back on the field and hopefully contributing.
Hurd, who impressed his rookie year during the preseason, suffered a season-ending back injury in 2019 before tearing his ACL during training camp last year. To date, the 6-foot-4 converted running back has yet to see a regular-season snap.
After spending organized team activities working with trainers, Hurd made his way back onto the field in individual drills:
The 49ers have an open competition for the No. 3 wide receiver on the depth chart. And while the veteran, Mohamed Sanu, might appear to be the favorite, someone like Hurd could potentially steal that spot if he ends up impressing enough in camp.
It’s far too soon to suggest Hurd will overtake Sanu on the depth chart, and Hurd’s primary goal over these next few weeks will merely be to stay healthy and show promise.
So far, it appears as if that’s happening.
