49ers roster: 5 players who would be shocking adds in 2021

No. 4: 49ers EDGE Daeshon Hall
In an ideal world, the Niners wouldn’t think about adding the former third-round NFL Draft pick of the Carolina Panthers, Daeshon Hall, to the 53-man roster.
But San Francisco’s world is far from ideal.
EDGE Nick Bosa is coming back from his 2020 ACL tear, which is good news. But fellow EDGE Dee Ford isn’t ready to go after a serious back injury suffered last year, and there’s a chance Ford is absent the entire season. On top of that, the 49ers’ outside pass-rushing depth took another hit with Jordan Willis being hit with a six-game suspension for a PED violation.
The Niners’ long-time backup pass-rusher, Ronald Blair, is no longer with the team either.
Samson Ebukam can shoulder a good deal of the load, but getting some outside pass-rushing depth is still going to be vital. It’s possible San Francisco turns to a player like Arden Key, who’ll look to revitalize his career amid his new surroundings.
Yet if Key doesn’t impress during training camp, it could be up to the 6-foot-5, 265-pound Hall to shoulder a lot of the situational pass-rushing load.
Ideal? Not exactly. Hall has 1.5 sacks over his NFL career. But he might make the cut strictly out of necessity.
