49ers training camp: 3 players who may tumble down depth chart
By Tee Epps
No. 1: 49ers Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo
The last player on my list should come as no surprise since he’s been a hot topic all summer long, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
Now, of course there’s a bunch of chatter out there regarding Garoppolo’s imminent roster status, but as of now he is still with the 49ers, which means his current role is always up for debate.

Garoppolo has been going on five years in head coach Kyle Shanahan’s offense, and it’s finally time to prove his worth. The Niners signed Garoppolo to that five-year, $137.5 million contract back in 2018, and he’s proven to be a solid winner when healthy and on the field.
Unfortunately for Garoppolo, the injury bug has gotten the best of him and has prevented maximum growth.
So, coming into this year’s training camp, Garoppolo will now have to look over his shoulders. San Francisco selected rookie quarterback Trey Lance with the third overall pick in this year’s draft. So, if Jimmy G doesn’t wow his coaching staff during camp, he, too, will tumble down the depth chart.
For some players, coaches and fans for that matter, training camp can’t get here soon enough. There will be plenty of healthy battles and much to discuss once the time arrives.
