Quarterback No. 2: Trey Lance

Some would want Trey Lance to be the top quarterback, but the team looks pretty content to allow Lance to soak up as much knowledge as he possibly can before finally deeming him ready and unleashing him on the NFL.

Exactly how long this will take is another matter. It could take him a whole season, but he could end up developing even quicker than expected to take the mantle sometime in 2021. Maybe even injury forces him to take the reins quicker than expected, and then he could break out in similar situations to Josh Allen and Justin Herbert.

The important thing is to not rush the process before he’s ready, If it takes him a year to be ready, then it’ll be worth it for the next 10-15 years. Lance has every physical tool you could want in a quarterback, especially in an era where successful quarterbacks have to be increasingly mobile. Reports show the 49ers want to embrace the rushing ability that Lance has, so that’ll be something to look forward to.

But for now, Lance is penciled in to be the backup to start his career. But every 49ers fan will be eagerly awaiting every scrap of news as well as the preseason games to see how he plays.
