49ers Explosive Player No. 3: Running Back Raheem Mostert

The Niners may be grooming another one of their drafted rookies, running back Trey Sermon, to take over for the veteran, Raheem Mostert, at some point this season for when Mostert hits free agency in 2022.

But that shouldn’t remove Mostert from being one of San Francisco’s most explosive weapons.

Mostert has regularly averaged over 5 yards per carry since becoming an integral piece in Kyle Shanahan’s offense. True, just like Deebo Samuel, injuries hindered Mostert in 2020 and limited him to just 677 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns over just eight games played.

Yet when you factor that in as a split, he would have had over 1,300 yards if he averaged those numbers over the course of a full season.

Forget about the numbers for a moment, though.

The reason why Mostert is one of the 49ers’ most explosive offensive options is simply because he’s one of the NFL’s fastest ball-carriers and is a home-run threat each time he touches the ball.

Don’t believe it? Well, Next Gen Stats actually gave Mostert the top two fastest ball-carrier times last year with him clocking a top speed of 23.09 miles per hour.

If that’s not explosive, what is?
