Out: 49ers WRs Bennie Fowler and Andy Jones

If you’re struggling to remember exactly who Bennie Fowler and Andy Jones are, you’re probably in good company.

Fowler was the player San Francisco signed as a depth emergency after originally inking the veteran, Marqise Lee, then releasing Lee three days later after he aggravated a knee injury.

True, Fowler has speed on his side. But the journeyman wideout has never caught on as an offensive weapon at any point during his seven-year pro career and has bounced around the league as a result.

If anything, he’s little more than a camp body.

Jones, meanwhile, is even more obscure than Fowler, coming in as yet another emergency OTA add when the 49ers were dealing with minor injuries to a number of their other pass-catchers during practices.

Jones’ stat line? A mere 11 receptions on 24 targets for 80 yards and a touchdown. Back in 2018. He hasn’t seen a regular-season snap since that point.

For those hoping to see what either player can do in a Niners uniform, Week 3 of the preseason probably provides the lone example.
