No. 4: 49ers Cornerback Tim Harris Jr.

Sixth- and seventh-round NFL Draft picks are a lot like undrafted free agents in that they have an awfully long road ahead to make a 53-man roster. Maybe a slightly better chance, but nothing more.

In the case of the Niners’ sixth-round pick from the 2019 draft, cornerback Tim Harris Jr., 2021 isn’t exactly looking like the prime opportunity for him to hang around on the regular-season roster. At least not with San Francisco drafting two more cornerbacks this year, Ambry Thomas and Deommodore Lenoir.

Granted, the depth behind the presumed starting trio of Jason Verrett, Emmanuel Moseley and K’Waun Williams is questionable at best. But if both Thomas and Lenoir make the cut, and also assuming veteran corner Dontae Johnson winds up being there, too, one can see how someone like Harris is merely a victim of the numbers game.

Even if he winds up impressing during training camp.

Harris was redshirted with an injury his rookie season and managed to get into only two games last year with all of those snaps coming on special teams.

Considering his injury history, should Harris not make the 53-man squad, it doesn’t seem likely another team would jump at the opportunity to sign him.
