A position group of much malign for the 49ers last year, the offensive line brings back three starters and adds two high-impact new ones. Trent Williams was a top-two tackle last year, his first in San Francisco following a year-long absence, and while Laken Tomlinson is no All-Pro himself, he offers solid protection from the left-guard position.

Tomlinson will have a little competition from Jaylon Moore, but losing his position this year is unlikely. On the other side, Mike McGlinchey, who had a remarkably uneven year, comes back reportedly bulkier and of a better mindset. With his fifth-year option picked up, he now has to prove that it’ll translate to the field.

Second-round pick Aaron Banks will likely slot in at right guard. Banks is a mauler, a guard much larger and bulkier than the 49ers typically have looked into at the position. While some questions about his athletic fit in a zone outside-run scheme exist, the 49ers believe he has the ability to fit right in, and he’ll take Daniel Brunskill’s former position, allowing the former to move into a swing role.

At center is free-agent signing Alex Mack. While Mack is entering the twilight of his career, he’s an extremely capable center who will stabilize the entire line.
