Richard Sherman: 4 teams that could sign former 49ers cornerback

No. 2: Richard Sherman follows Robert Saleh to Jets
West Coast teams are likely to be a Richard Sherman-preferred destination. But just as was the case with Gus Bradley, it wouldn’t be a shock to see Sherman follow his most recent defensive coordinator, Robert Saleh, to the New York Jets.
When Saleh took over Gang Green this offseason, there was plenty of speculation he’d steal away plenty of pending 49ers free agents.
So far, only running back Tevin Coleman and EDGE Ronald Blair have followed in that path.
Still, that doesn’t eliminate Sherman from being the next possible add. And with New York having over $27 million in cap space with the bulk of its roster in place, there’d be no shortage of room to take on Sherman’s asking price.
While the Jets’ focus is building around rookie quarterback Zach Wilson, Saleh will want to put his stamp on the defense, too, and there are plenty of needs there at all three levels, including finding a quality veteran within the secondary who can help mentor some of the younger talents on that side of the ball.
True, it might be a year or two before the Jets can even sniff playoff contention, and that might be too long from Sherman’s perspective.
But if he wants to play a vital role in a team rebuild, few other contexts would provide as quality a fit as that of New York.
